Best NYC Late-Night Spots for the Late-Night Warriors

Riddle me this. It’s late Saturday night, you and your friends are having fun, but the bar is dying down as closing time quickly approaches. You still think you have a good couple of hours of partying left in you, but the bar clearly does not. What do you do?

After-hours at your apartment? Maybe! But what if your building enforces a Noise Curfew, or your roommate is already asleep and hates being woken up. How about late-night drunk food at an all-night diner? Never a bad option, but this may hinder your ability to “turn up” without running the risk of being escorted out of the establishment.

If your initial guess was to find a late-night bar, you were not only correct, you’re in luck! We here at BarCard value our customers’ desire to keep the party going strong, and have compiled a list of a few places that don’t stop the festivities once 2:00 A.M. strikes.

Planet Rose

This East Village karaoke lounge will give your night a solid dose of fun and flair. Complete with lipstick red walls, zebra print furniture, and plenty of overconfident tone-deaf singers, Planet Rose is the answer when you’re looking to spice up your usual night-out routine.

The drinks are relatively cheap, but it is probably in your best interest to come early for the two-for-one happy hour. Sure to be a good time, Planet Rose is an East Village karaoke destination for “singers who drink, and drinkers who sing.”

Blue Note Jazz Club

Since its inception in 1981, Blue Note has become one of the most premier jazz clubs in the world and a cultural institution in Greenwich Village. Owner and founder, Danny Bensusan, had a vison to create a Jazz Club in Greenwich Village that would treat deserving artists with respect, while allowing patrons to see the world’s finest jazz musicians in a close, comfortable setting.

According to the club’s site, jazz is undoubtedly America’s music, and while Blue Note strives to preserve the history of jazz, the club is a place where progression and innovation – the foundations of jazz – are encouraged and practiced on a nightly basis. After 30 years of success, Blue Note continues to carry the torch for jazz into the 21st Century in the cultural heart of New York, Greenwich Village.

Located between 6th and McDougal St., Blue Note has a Late Night Groove Series that starts at 12:30 A.M. on Friday and Saturday nights, which often runs through 3 A.M.

The Duplex

Although The Duplex looks like a quiet West Village corner home, there’s a raucous world of great cabaret behind its French doors. Opened in the 1950’s in its original location across the street, The Duplex moved to its current location in the 1980’s and is touted as the city’s oldest cabaret theatre. (It’s rumored this theatre is where celebrities like Joan Rivers and Woody Allen tested out their early work.)

The Duplex offers the ability to enjoy an entire evening of Broadway-quality entertainment without the long lines and overpriced tickets. The downstairs will provide you with a piano bar, where patrons with the courage to take center stage are invited to take part in impromptu open-mic sessions for singers during the week after 9 P.M. Upstairs, on the other hand, will provide you with that NYC lounge feel, with all the action usually lasting until about 4 A.M. on a nightly basis.

Tick Tock Diner

No late-night outing is complete without topping it off with delicious food. Scattered all across Manhattan are a plethora of diners that claim to serve the best meals, but unless you see bright red lettering, reading the words “Tick Tock Diner,” then those other diners are just mere imposters.

Tick Tock Diner acknowledges its stature as an iconic symbol of the American diner with locations in both Midtown Manhattan and Clifton, New Jersey. Tick Tock has mastered the art of casual dining, providing customers with high quality ingredients, generous portions at a reasonable price and a comfortable, family-friendly atmosphere that keeps them coming back year after year, and night after night. If you’re looking for the best late-night food to cap off an epic night, and still want to enjoy a nice beer, the Tick Tock Diner is the place for you.
