The 2018 FIFA World Cup in NYC

Being a soccer fan in the United States can be rough sometimes. Major League Soccer is not as popular as we would like. Most of our favorite players are playing for clubs across seas. And worst of all, our favorite tournament only comes around once every four years.

Fortunately, as a soccer fan, that long wait from 2014 has finally arrived, and the 2018 FIFA World Cup is back! Get your flags. Quick purchase a country’s jersey off Amazon. Order a “23 & Me” so you can tell your friends where your family originates from, and get ready for the greatest month of the greatest sport on the planet.

Starting June 14th, the 2018 FIFA World Cup will be taking place in Russia this year. For most of us here in the States, that means we will be forced to watch from our televisions at home, or from our local sports bar. (2026 can’t come soon enough!). If you are a part of the unlucky majority who will be viewing the World Cup through a TV screen, don’t panic. We’ve compiled a list of some popular bars in NYC to make the most of your World Cup viewing experience.

The Football Factory at Legend’s (6 W 33rd St. New York, NY 10001)

According to the company’s site: "The Football Factory at Legends is the home to soccer in New York City. Located in the heart of Manhattan, the Football Factory provides a genuine matchday experience within the fantastic settings of Legends Bar, with great food and drink on hand.

With 20 Big Screen TV's and 100+ live soccer matches each week, we're the home of over 30 NYC Supporter Clubs and boast the largest collection of football memorabilia in the US."

Comprehensive live coverage of the English Premier League, the Football League, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, La Liga, Serie A, Major League Soccer, top South American leagues, and ALL UEFA Championships League and Europa League matches. If you are a die-hard soccer fan, Legend’s Football Factory is the spot for you.

Lansdowne Road (599 10th Ave. New York, NY 10036)

Lansdowne is a recent BarCard, Inc. partner, and a Hell’s Kitchen favorite. Named after the now-shuttered Lansdowne Road Rugby Stadium in Dublin, Ireland, this Hell's Kitchen sports bar has a great line up of local craft beers and pub staples such as Guinness Stout and Stella Artois. Come watch a game on one of their 17 screens while sampling their famous "Scruffy Duffy's Chicken Wings".

With great food and a plethora of televisions to choose from, Lansdowne Road is a great stopping point in Hell’s Kitchen to catch some FIFA World Cup football action.

Smithfield Hall (138 W 25th St. New York, NY 10001)

Smithfield Hall is perfectly situated in the heart of Chelsea on the West Side. This gigantic sports bar is perfect if you’re looking to avoid the “Midtown Madness” that is sure to take place after the World Cup’s kickoff. Don’t believe me? Hear it from them yourself:

“Smithfield Hall greets you with beautiful reclaimed wood and warm lighting. Vintage sports photographs and paraphernalia accent the space and state of the art LED HD TV’s are strategically placed for an unfettered view of your sports event no matter where you sit. Take a seat at the 70 foot bar made from wood that held up one of the old warehouse’s that once populated the West Side of Chelsea.”

Smithfield Hall is famous for its unrivaled coverage of soccer/football, showing games from all over the planet. However, they also have comprehensive coverage of all sports with NFL Sunday Ticket, NHL Center Ice, MLB Extra Innings, NCAA Gameplan and more. They also offer coverage in a variety of other sports including, Rugby, Cricket, Track & Field to name just a few. You can always email Smithfield with any request and they will strive to find your sporting event.

Jack Demsey’s (36 W. 33rd St. New York, NY 10001)

Home of the Manhattan No. 1 Celtic Supporters Club, Jack Demsey’s is a perfect place to grab a beer and catch a game if you’re doing some site-seeing around the Empire State Building.

Jack Demsey’s lengthy mahogany bar offers a large selection of draft beers, stout, ale, and cider as well as your favorite bottled beers. They also offer Single malt Scotches, small batch Bourbon, and Port, along with an extensive wine list, and your favorite mixed drinks. With an 8 feet screen TV and over 12 televisions Jack Demsey's is sure to have your game on TV! There is no better place in New York to catch all the World Cup action.
